There are occasions when you need to screen something in a garden, sometimes its a neighbouring window or an unattractive view.  There are very few plants which can do this job well and without becoming too large in time.  One of our favourite plants for screening is Ligustrum lucidum, an evergreen small tree.

The foliage is delicately variagated and has a reddish tinge in the spring.   It is a very well behaved tree requiring only a small amount of pruning to maintain its shape.  If you feel overlooked by other houses a short row of these alongside the boundary fence will give an instant remedy – what’s not to like…
