In 2019 we were asked to design a garden for an architect and his wife in Alderton. The brief was fairly open but it should blend a sense of oasis with natural structures and materials.
View to Vegetable Garden
The existing garden had a slope towards the house, this allowed us to create an enveloping lower terrace, surrounded by a stout oak retaining wall.
By combining limestone paving and grey limestone setts a ‘lived in’ appearance was achieved, softened by cottage style planting.
The Lower Terrace
In the West facing corner of the garden a rustic style timber gazebo was built to make best use of the evening sun. A hardwood deck in front of the gazebo enhances the rustic feel of this area of the garden.
View for the Lower Terrace
An existing birch tree was retained and provided useful shade and a pivot point for the paths.

In the upper part of the new garden a small vegetable garden was built, incorporating an attractive shed/potting shed and raised planters.
